Opening a Trade Account with Majeurs, an African Luxury Furniture House: What Interior Designers Should Know

For designers who order once and move on, a standard retail purchase works fine. For designers building a practice around repeat clients, multiple projects and ongoing sourcing, a trade account with a luxury furniture house is the more useful setup. With Majeurs, it is also simpler to open than most designers expect.

Why trade accounts matter more now than they used to

Interior briefs are getting more personal and more specific. Clients want pieces with a point of view, made to fit the room rather than picked from a catalogue, and designers are placing more frequent, higher-value furniture orders as a result.

Africa still holds a small share of the global interior design market, which is less a limitation than an opening. Designers who build a direct relationship with an African luxury furniture house now get earlier access to new collections, better terms and a manufacturer who already understands their workflow by the time a major project lands.

What the Majeurs Trade Program gives you

A trade account is not simply a discount code. Through the Majeurs Trade Program, designers get:

  • Trade pricing of up to 20%, with discounts that grow with your cumulative annual spend
  • Priority lead times, so a repeat client’s project doesn’t sit in the same queue as a first-time retail enquiry
  • A dedicated point of contact who knows your past orders, preferred finishes and typical project scale
  • Furniture made to your spec, with custom dimensions, materials and finishes, including metal inlays, upholstery stitching and veneer matching
  • Samples and 3D models, with fast prototyping, sample approval and 3D-ready models for your design software
  • On-site support, including measurement and installation, so every piece lands exactly as specified

How the trade tiers work

There is no minimum spend to join. Once you are a member, your tier is set by your cumulative annual spend with Majeurs, and every tier includes a dedicated contact.

  • Silver: 5% off from ₦10M annual spend, with priority sampling, faster quotations and access to newer finishes
  • Gold: 12–15% off from ₦25M annual spend, with a dedicated designer liaison, priority production slots and custom moodboard support
  • Platinum: 15–20% off from ₦50M annual spend, with co-created signature products, an annual showroom credit, a premium sample box and VIP prototyping

Set your materials once

One underrated benefit of a trade account is that the materials conversation only has to happen once. Instead of re-explaining wood and upholstery preferences on every project, trade members keep standing preferences on file that carry across orders.

Hardwoods most often specified by trade clients:

  • Iroko, for its durability and warm, teak-like tone across indoor and covered outdoor pieces
  • Sapele, for statement case goods and dining furniture where a rich, mahogany-like grain is wanted
  • African mahogany, for heritage-leaning residential projects
  • Afzelia (Doussié), for high-traffic commercial pieces that still need a refined finish
  • Opepe (Bilinga), for larger structural pieces that need extra stability

Upholstery and finish preferences trade clients commonly set:

  • Full-grain or top-grain leather, in a defined palette for repeat ordering
  • Bouclé, linen or mohair, matched to your typical residential or hospitality client
  • Handwoven West African textiles, including Aso-oke, used selectively as accent upholstery
  • Natural cane or rattan for lighter pieces
  • Brass or bronze hardware, specified once and applied consistently across future commissions

With these preferences on file, a trade member moves from brief to quote far faster than a first-time buyer working through the same decisions from scratch.

A working example

Picture a design studio in London or Los Angeles taking on three or four residential projects a year that each call for a distinctive, non-generic furniture point of view. Ordering piece by piece through retail means renegotiating pricing, lead times and finishes every time. With a trade account, the same studio sends a floor plan and a short brief and receives a quote built on pricing and material preferences that are already agreed.
