The Technical Drawing Facilitator Role
The Technical Drawing Facilitator is responsible for training students to read, interpret, and produce technical drawings used in furniture design and manufacturing.
This role bridges design and production.
You will teach students how to translate design ideas into clear technical drawings that can be used by carpenters, upholsterers, and fabricators in real production environments.
This is not purely theoretical teaching. Students must be able to connect drawings to real furniture production.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Skill Development
- Teach students how to read and interpret furniture technical drawings
- Introduce basic drafting principles, including scale, dimensions, and annotations
- Train students in furniture construction drawings and component breakdowns
- Demonstrate how design drawings translate into production instructions
Practical Application
- Guide students in creating technical drawings for furniture projects produced in the academy
- Ensure drawings accurately communicate measurements, materials, and construction details
- Support students in connecting drawing concepts to real workshop production
Digital & Manual Drafting
- Teach both manual drafting techniques and basic digital drafting tools where applicable
- Introduce software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar tools where appropriate
- Ensure students understand industry drawing standards
Student Assessment
- Evaluate student drawing accuracy and clarity
- Provide feedback on design interpretation and technical communication
- Support students preparing for technical drawing assessments or certification

Success in this role will be measured by:
- Students’ ability to accurately read furniture drawings
- Students’ ability to produce clear technical drawings for workshop use
- Integration of drawings into student furniture production projects
- Student completion rates and competency levels

First 90 Days Expectations
The first three months in this role focus on building strong drawing literacy among students and connecting design thinking to workshop production.
Within your first 90 days, you will be expected to:
Month 1 — Orientation & Curriculum Alignment
- Understand the training structure and existing student skill levels
- Assess students’ ability to read and interpret drawings
- Establish structured teaching sessions for technical drawing fundamentals
- Align drawing lessons with workshop production activities
Month 2 — Structured Skills Development
- Deliver structured lessons on furniture technical drawings and drafting principles
- Guide students in producing their first furniture drawings
- Introduce drawing standards used in professional workshops
- Begin documenting student competency levels
Month 3 — Production Integration
- Ensure students are able to produce drawings for furniture projects in the academy
- Improve the accuracy of measurements and construction details in student drawings
- Support integration between drawing lessons and workshop production
- Deliver a progress report outlining student development
Success in the first 90 days will be measured by students’ ability to read, interpret, and produce usable furniture drawings.
Candidate Profile
You are a design-minded technical professional who enjoys teaching practical skills.
You understand how drawings guide real manufacturing and want to help students develop this critical capability.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or certification in Technical Drawing, Drafting, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field
- Minimum 4–5 years of experience in technical drawing or design documentation
- Ability to teach both manual drafting and basic digital drafting tools
Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with furniture manufacturers, architects, or designers
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar drafting software
- Strong communication and teaching ability
- Ability to connect drawing concepts to real production

- Only have theoretical design knowledge without practical production understanding
- Prefer purely classroom teaching without workshop integration
